IM4REAL (2018) is a short documentary film showing Jessica Tilson’s ingenious approaches to maintaining and interpreting the graves of her ancestors in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery in Maringouin, LA. Tilson cleans and memorizes the grave markers of members of the GU272+, the group of people sold in 1838 by the Jesuits of Maryland to ensure the financial future of Georgetown College. In the process of connecting with and honoring her ancestors, Tilson speaks to her own experiences of race and racism in a small South Louisiana bayou town.
IM4REAL debuted at the National Humanities Conference in New Orleans, LA, in 2018.
